Visual Plasticity: Blindsight Bridges Anatomy and Function in the Visual System
Some people who are blind due to damage to their primary visual cortex, V1, can discriminate stimuli presented within their blind visual field. This residual function has been recently linked to a pathway that bypasses V1, and connects the thalamic lateral geniculate nucleus directly with the extrastriate cortical area MT.
متن کاملEffects of visual deprivation on synaptic plasticity of visual cortex
TBS (Theta Burst Stimulation) and PBs (Primed Bursts) are among effective tetanic stimulations for induction of LTP in hippocampus. Recent studies have indicated that TBS is effective in LTP induction in layer III synapses of neocortex, only if applied to layer IV. However, the possibility of neocortical LTP induction using PBs, has not yet been investigated. Sensory deprivation greatly influ...
متن کاملthe role of visual aids and translation in teaching vocabulary in est
the present study investigated the effect of the two vocabulary teaching techniques in est, namely the use of translation and the use of visual aids as two separate vocabulary teaching techniques. to answer the question of the study, a pretest (michigan test) was administered to the 58 randomly selected est students at khajeh nasiredin tusi university, faculty of mechanics. after the homogeneit...
15 صفحه اولVisual System: How Does Blindsight Arise?
Some patients can discriminate unseen visual stimuli within a field defect caused by damage to the primary visual cortex. The pathways for this 'blindsight' have never been established, but recent studies implicate hitherto overlooked cells in the thalamic LGN.
متن کاملNon-visual consciousness and visual images in blindsight.
In a recent response paper to Brogaard (2011a), Morten Overgaard and Thor Grünbaum argue that my case for the claim that blindsight subjects are not visually conscious of the stimuli they correctly identify rests on a mistaken necessary criterion for determining whether a conscious experience is visual or non-visual. Here I elaborate on the earlier argument while conceding that the question of ...
